REDUCING WILDFIRE RISK TO COMMUNITIES IN NORTHWESTERN B.C.

Wetzin'kwa Community Forest Corporation (WCFC) has been actively seeking opportunities to reduce wildfire risk within the community forest since its inception. Our current efforts include the Hudson Bay Mountain shaded fuel break, a project that highlights the successes that are possible with strong community partnerships. Funding from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC helped WCFC to develop our Strategic Wildfire Hazard Mitigation Plan (SWHMP) in 2018 and subsequent funding in 2023 has helped with implementation. Learn more about wildfire risk reduction in Northern BC and this project in the recent article published by FESBC, including quotes from the Honorable Bruce Ralston, Minister of Forest, and our key community partners!
